Do you see multiple SMTP32.exe in task manager?  If you see this this is
normal.  IMail can spawn up to 30 SMTP32.exe processes by default
unless you performed the registry hack to increase the amount of
processes that IMail can spawn.  Do you see multiple SMTPd32.exe?  If
you do, do you have Terminal Server installed and running?
What version of IMail are you running?
