well, there are two separate protocols.
SMTP is used by Ms. Eudora for sending your oubound mail to some ip's
port 25. That's what we're talking about. no mail checkin'
here. This port 25 is blocked worldwide by most dial-up access
providers except for their own SMTP servers, to prevent mail abuse.
The other protocol is POP3, for reading mailboxes any where. Since
there is no serious risk of mail abuse with POP3 (port 110), ISP's
don't block it, (not at least yet) so your checking and reading work.
