IMail does indicate the number of bytes. On my mail client, connecting to our IMail
server, the progress bar will go up during a download (although Eudora isn't that
smart, if there are two messages, a big one and a little one, it will very slowly go
to the 50% mark, and then quickly go to the 100% mark).
Anyways, to see for yourself, telnet to port 110. Type "USER username" and "PASS
password". Then, type "LIST" to see a list of all the messages that IMail has for
you. It lists the number of bytes after each one. The other way many mail clients
work is with the UIDL command -- that doesn't give the number of bytes for each
E-mail, but does give the total number of bytes for all messages.
