Sample IMail 6.x rules to filter attachments (rules.ima):
B~(name=".*\.vbs"|name=".*\.shs"|name=".*\.scr"|name=".*\.pif"):quarantine
B~(begin 6.*\.vbs|begin 6.*\.shs|begin 6.*\.scr|begin 6.*\.pif):quarantine
These rules are, respectively, for filtering MIME and Uuencoded attachments
on a limited set of attachment types (vbs,shs,scr and pif). They depend
upon each user having a quarantine.fwd file in their directory which
contains the name of a user account to which all filtered content will be
directed. There are batch files available that will easily replicate this
forwarding file into the accounts of all users. If you would like a copy,
please write.
As an alternative, all filtered messages may be discarded by sending them
to NUL. This does not allow for very satisfactory monitoring however.
Caveats and info:
1. The maximum number of characters in a rule is 5,000.
2. Rules only examine the first 32K of any message.
3. It is possible for these rules to filter innocent messages that happen to
contain the listed character strings (messages like this one, for example).
4. Responsibility for testing and implementation of these suggestions
resides with the user.
5. Testing is highly advised!
