We've got about 500 installations of KillerWebMail out there, and nobody has reported any template-related attachment sending issues to us. Certainly IMail has some attachment display issues, but the templates cannot control that, and you'll see the same problems with stock templates. The stock templates don't have any message trailer feature. To get the news to show up, you'll need a mailnews.txt file in the /web directory for the domain in question.
