Yes, filters are easier in Webshiled, plus Webshield has realtime e-mail counters so it is easy to monitor.

However, automatic updades are also available in McAfee desktop version that you would use should you decide to buy Declude.

For me Webshiels presents at least two drawbacks as compared to Declude-McAfee:

1. It is not possible to implement SMTP authentication. Ipswitch has it, but Webshield doesn't. Therefore, antispam defence of mail server is somewhat impaired.

2. Scanning is much more reliable with desktop McAfee than with Webshield. Just a couple of weeks ago we had severe contamination with Anna Kurnikiva's virus. Webshield with latest DAT's would let it in, whereas desktop version of Mcafee (and McAfee+Declude) seemed to have no problems catching and eradicating this virus. I had to call McAfee and they aknowledged a bug in Webshield, that they quickly repaired, but damage has been already done.

What you say concerning it taking over SMTP is true, but for a corporate server WebShield also has some advantages.  Setting up filters is much easier than in Imail.  Updates are automatic and transparent once configured.  Would I be using it if I didn't have TVD?  Probably not due to the cost.  Since I have it as part of TVD it's a no brainer for me.

From my experience with Webshield I'd rather recommend Declude :)

Webshield works, but it is far from perfect, plus you won't be able to use SMTP fetures of Ipswitch, because SMTP will be retaken by Webshield.

thanks

Actually, we are running NAI's TVD Groupshield, which runs on your Exchange server as an integrated NT service.  I guess by the two responses, I should be looking at NAI's TVD Webshield product as the anti-virus solution to run in conjunction with IMail.  Is this correct?

Hey Everyone:
I currently administer NAI's Total Virus Defense on our Exchange server, but we will soon be changing to IMail.  I can't find any information on McAfee's site regarding IMail, so does anyone have any experience integrating NAI's TVD on an IMail server?  Where did you find the information on how to integrate it?  On the IMail site, it says to see the configuration notes.  Is that referring to IMail's configuration notes?  (My boss has these and I haven't been able to view them yet.)  Thanks for any information you can pass my way.
Craig Webb
