I know this works for Sendmail.

telnet host 25
MAIL From:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
RCPT To:emailaddress

quit

That works for sendmail. It should work for Imail also. Some SMTP services
allow you to run the verify command instead. But I have never run it in a
telnet session.

Good luck. I'll be looking to see what anyone else posts. It's a good
question.

Subject: [IMail Forum] TELNET to SMTP

I know I have seen this on the list before but I can't seem to find the
message. How do I telnet to the SMTP port to check if a mailbox is valid.

I know how to telnet to see if the smtp is listening just not how to check
the user
