super, sounds really cheap ... but it adds up in a hurry, $2,000, 
$20,000, etc every year.

That's pretty much the scale I heard from Sophos and Trend last year.

Kaspersky AV that can be used in IMGate as an in-line SMTP scanning 
service is $560 / year, _unlimited_ users & domains.  It's a fine 
little "off brand" scanner that's been around several years. I think 
it was PC Week or Mag, (ok ok fwiw), that recently awarded Kaspersky 
something, so it's becoming known.

If you aren't restricted to one box in a co-location setup, multiple 
boxes gives more flexibility and control.  The single-function or 
lower-function (and lower power or old, "free") boxes are each 
simpler to setup and maintain, and provide much better defense of the 
user's mailbox server, and provide better scaleability.
