I thought about that too. And rejected for the reason you specified.
Having two different ways to login for clients would be a tech-supp
nightmare. Not to mention that we would have to have different
configuration CD's for each type of client. If ip's were free and
readily available I would use them though.

How much would it cost me to build an SMTP server from scratch
that would do SMTP auth from SQL?
