It appears as if you never posted the email you are sending and the actual
email(s) that are returned in reply. Whenever you report an error
condition, the first thing to do is to post the ACTUAL message text, not
some narrative interpretation.
I have seen something like that happen, if you are sending TWO commands in
ONE email, e.g.
subscribe
set mode standard
As a result, you'll get TWO email. Once confirms the subscription, the
second confirms "already subscribed in standard mode".
