I do not believe that to be totally correct. SMTP authenication will work
with external databases if the associated domain has a unique IP address.
SMTP authenication will not work domains without IPs using external
databases. So if all the mail domains on the server have IP addresses they
will be able to use external databases and SMTP Authenication.
