Andrew,
Is this line in HOSTS the last one and is it followed by a <CRLF> (hit the
'enter' key so cursor is on the next line)? If no <CRLF>, then NT does not
parse the last line of the file correctly and it acts like it is not there.
Of course, you must also be using Relay for Addresses and the address of the
remote server must be in the table.
