You need to distinguish between "spammed" (incoming spam; people sending your users
junk E-mail) and "hijacked" (outgoing spam; when a spammer uses your mail server to
send out 100,000's of spams).
Incoming spam can be minimized using spam IP databases and filtering of various sorts.
Outgoing spam can be eliminated completely by having IMail set up to not allow
unauthorized relaying.

The first step is to determine what is happening. If your problem with the SMTP
service stopping isn't related to spam, Declude won't help. If you have a problem
with people hijacking your server, then your best option is to close your relay (for
free, even) by using the IMail "Relay for Addresses" setting (listing all the IPs that
your customers may be coming from), and using SMTP AUTH for people who won't be coming
from a fixed IP.
If you are having a problem with incoming spam, then Declude would certainly be able
to help. The Lite version is limited to just two tests (RBL/ORBS), but you would be
able to catch more spam by using some of the other tests in the Standard/Pro versions.
If you have a problem with people hijacking your mail server to send out mail, and
can't use "Relay for Addresses" for some reason and want Declude to help, you would
need the Pro version. But, "Relay for Addresses" is still your best option.
