Don't backup the \imail\spool directory.
SMTP32 is the delivery program and it uses the files in that dir. Sounds
like a lock conflict between the program and the backup process. Suppose you
could tell the backup not to lock the files in that dir, instead (assuming
you can do that with your software). That might cause the backup file to be
incomplete or bad, but it (file in spool) might not be there in 10 minutes,
anyway (the message gets delivered, so file is deleted).
Another possibility is having Alias with more than about 50 email addresses.
Those Aliases should be converted to List Servers.

Subject: [IMail Forum] SMTP32.EXE
We are running into application errors every morning with smtp32.exe. I
believe it occurs when we back up our mail server at night. Any suggestions
on how we can correct this?
Thanks,
