A host name and an IP address should just be two different ways of identifying the 
same computer.  It's kind of like saying "I live at 1234 Main St." or "Mine is the 
house next to the Church".  Depending on who you are telling, one may be better than 
the other.

The problem is that in most places you can use either a host name or an IP address, 
but there are some places where you are forced to use one or the other.  For example, 
you are required to use a host name in the SMTP banner/greeting, as well as in MX 
records.  But, some people think "Hey, they're the same thing, so I'll use the IP".  
In some places, this is O.K. -- but in other places, it isn't.
