Steve,

I'd have to agree with Scott, this does not look like IMail server
responses. Are you by any chance running the client, on the same machine as
IMail? If not, then looks like you might be seeing a mail server on the
machine running the client.

Well, the situation gets more complicated! I tried a telnet session to the
host: mail.cbs4u.com on port 25 and got something that does not look like or
respond like IMail, so I tried port 110 and get something a bit more normal:
+OK X1 NT-POP3 Server 127.0.0.1 (IMail 6.06 1348-1)

But with an IP as the hostname!!!!

Sorry, but whatever you are trying to do, just won't work!!! IMail cannot
use an IP address as its 'Official Host Name'!

My guess is there is another mail server/virus scanner or other process is
using port 25 and that may get in IMail's way (depending what else you may
have done!). Or maybe you used the reg hack to change the port 25 response.
If you did this, try removing the hack. Maybe that is screwing with the
proper running of the code? Stop/start the SMTP service after removing reg
hack.

Subject: [IMail Forum] 505 not local host, not gateway, NOT WORKING

Sorry in advance for the long message. I've been going back and forth with
Pat from ipswitch trying to resolve this. Now I'm turning to the board.
=============================================

When sending mail from Outlook Express, I get error code
505 not local host domain.com, not gateway

I know why this is happening, but the suggested fixes are not working.

Running Imail 6.06, with 4 latest patches installed 5/16/01, incl the SVS
patch
on W2K AdvSrv. No resolution from the patches. :-(

SMTP Security is set to No Relay (per email from ipswitch tech supp). I also
tried using Addresses, but same no luck. Outlook Express 5.5 is set to
authenticate outgoing mail
I use Virtual Domains, so I'm sending [EMAIL PROTECTED] as user, password as
password.

I don't think the SMTP AUTH command is getting sent.

I setup a SMTP log in Outlook Express and here is a sample:

SMTP: 12:09:33 [rx] 220 ********************2**0*0************0******
SMTP: 12:09:33 [tx] EHLO ws1
SMTP: 12:09:33 [rx] 502 unimplemented command
SMTP: 12:09:33 [tx] HELO ws1
SMTP: 12:09:33 [rx] 250 hello 127.0.0.1
SMTP: 12:09:33 [tx] MAIL FROM: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
SMTP: 12:09:33 [rx] 250 ok
SMTP: 12:09:33 [tx] RCPT TO: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
SMTP: 12:09:33 [rx] 550 not local host mail.com, not a gateway
SMTP: 12:09:33 [tx] QUIT
SMTP: 12:09:33 [rx] 221 Goodbye

See, there is no SMTP AUTH command being requested or sent (perhaps it's
hidden) or not logged.

When I set SMTP Security settings to relay for anyone, it works, but I don't
want to open my server to the world. duh.

So if anyone on the board can help, I thank you in advance.

-steve
