1: Spam and virus are separate products(actually they use the same .exe file,
but you need licensing for the appropriate functionality). You must purchase
both.
2: Can't comment - I only have Declude Virus.
3: As a "wintel weenie" Declude is a big plus. On the AV side, setup is a 10
minute thing - VERY simple. I would expect similar benefits on the spam side.
IMGate is free, but your time is not. Unless you want an excuse to get your
hands into a Linux/FreeBSD setup, the lower implementation costs will balance
out any financial equations quickly. Also, the IMGate AV stuff is based on
Kaspersky which will cost approximately the same as Declude AV.
4: Declude would open up less security issues than IMGate. It integrates
"internally" with iMail and requires no changes to changes to your current
iMail security settings. IMGate would require setting up another box to act
as your border mail gateway, which would have to be secured separately from
your iMail box. If you're using SMTP Auth, then Declude would be much
easier to implement and secure.
Declude service is great, they are responsive to feature requests. I have
been very happy.
The above may seem anti-IMGate, but it's not. Some IMGate advantages:
1: Processing is offloaded from the iMail box. If the IMail box is already
stressed, Declude might be too much for it. Declude is actually very
efficient, but if the box is already being pushed...
2: Even though there is a bit more of a learning curve, once mastered you can
drop in as many IMGates as you want/need with minimal cost.
3: IMGate would supply a secondary MX for mail queuing and relay if your
Declude box is down.
4: IMGate can drop the spam sooner in some instances. Declude works off the
queue files, which means the server has already received the spam, but Declude
stops it before it can get to your user's mailbox or be relayed back out.
IMGate can look at the RBL/Orbs type lists and drop some connections before
the message is received.
