When IMail sends out a mailing list, it uses an unusual formula to
determine how many SMTP processes to use. You might want to play with the
"Number of recipients per message" value. If you set that to 10,000, IMail
would try sending all 10,000 E-mails using 1 SMTP process. If you set to
it 1,000, IMail would send use 10 SMTP processes each with 1,000 users to
send to.
Once there are undeliverable messages, IMail unfortunately only uses 1 SMTP
process to go through the queue. If you have 1,000 E-mails in the queue,
it's got to send them out one at a time.

Because it relies on you to set an appropriate number in the cryptic
"Number of recipients per message" option. You can search the knowledge
base for the best settings.
>2) Is there someway I can automate this or tell IMail I ALWAYS want 50/60

See above.
