Why don't you just change the port that web messaging runs on?

If you're using IIS 4.0 or later on the machine, you could use an asp
redirect page

set a standard web site up on port 80 of mail.domain.com and make the
default.asp page as follows:

<%
    Response.Redirect(http://mail.domain.com:8383)
%>

or, i believe, you could simply set the web messaging up on that server to
port 80
