It should work. I moved our IMail
server to a new machine with new IP's and renamed domains and was able to keep
all existing clients. After you restore your registry backup, you have to
into the registry itself and modify all the keys for the IP's, domains and
users. It's tedious and takes a bit of time, but it prevents you from
having to re-enter all your clients.
Run regedit and go to
HKLM\Software\Ipswitch\Imail\Domains, like the Ipswitch article says, and start
modifying the keys accordingly. You are essentially renaming the key
values for domains and IP's. Also, if you changed your domain name, you
will also have to go into the registry keys for all your users and change the
value for their e-mail address to reflect that change.
For some registry changes, you may have to
run regedt32. Each program limits what you can alter in the
registry. I had to use both when I transferred ours over to a new
server.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Moving my imail to another serverFolks, I need to move my imail clients to another server, but the new one has a new name and new ips, so i tried restoring a backup but it doesen't work.
What didn't work about it and how exactly did you do it? I've done this several times and had not problem at all.
John
Is there any other way to do it without re typeing all my clients
