Definitely referring to the "on-access" scanner (called System Scan). It
slows down my Win98 box too - and badly. Everytime I open a program,
file, or just get a tooltip, the mouse pointer pauses on it's way to
wherever I move it while McAfee scans whatever files, data, or DLLs are
being accessed. It nearly doubles the time it takes to open Outlook or
IE :( It's a 384mb machine, I shouldn't have to deal with these
mouse-jumps!
Workaround: schedule a full scan at least a couple-few times a week and
disable the System Scan - or just limit it to scanning floppies. My
system scans nightly (well, 6am, after I've gone to bed) and I've had no
problems with the Email and Download scanning - and no slowdowns since I
disabled the System Scanning :)
