>The old admin of the network which I now run sent me an email that states
>he has received over 6000 messages being relayed through my server to his
>over the past week.
Hmmm... that would mean that you are using his server as a gateway, or
something really odd is going. If someone was hijacking your mail server,
they couldn't get the mail to go to his server (unless it was all addressed
to him).
>He will not provide me with any additional information without a consulting
>charge (He is not a very nice person)
It sounds like you are dealing with a common criminal.
If there really was mail going from your server to his, it would be
bothering him, and something he would want fixed.
Not giving you the header information simply means that he is trying to
bribe you and is greedy. Most likely, he is making this whole story up.
>so I don't really know where the mail is coming from....
Not should you care. If something is not configured properly on your
domain, it is only affecting this unethical guy. Just double-check that
you aren't an open relay, and wait for a real person to let you know if
there are any problems.
>Can anyone suggest a starting point for me...or a
>utility that would allow me to see if mail is being sent to his domain?
Try going to a command prompt, go to the \IMail\spool directory, and type:
FIND " rdeliver " SYS08*.TXT | find "example.com"
FIND " gdeliver " SYS08*.TXT | find "example.com"
If there are any remote E-mails destined for his domain (replace
"example.com" with his domain), they will show up. If there are really
6,000 of 'em, it will be obvious when you type the above commands.
