That's exactly what I did, ran the setup, watched the indicator, clicked a few buttons, rebooted, and then had imail 6 running.  Very painless.  You might run in to an error message on boot stating that a service failed to start up, this is usually the web calendaring service (if you enabled it), just disable it.
 
Also the Tech I talked to said that he has had over a hundred people do this, and none have ever called back with problems related to the downgrade.

I've done this successfully, it was actually what was recommended to us from ipswitch.

Has anyone been able to downgrade their Imail Server from 7 to 6 and is this even possible?
