-----Original Message-----Thank you so much!!! I am trying to investigate the F-prot scanner (whether it runs as a Windows service and if it will auto-update its virus definition files) at this very moment!! You have saved me some time, money and headaches trying to figure this out!! Since I'm on a tight budget and am having to figure this out myself, I'm glad I don't have to waste $40 on F-Prot for Windows if it's not going to do the job well.

Subject: Re: [IMail Forum] Declude virus, Mcafee or F-prot?However, I did create an FTP script that will automatically (using the Win2k Scheduler) ftp to the F-Prot ftp server, download the file and unzip it and overwrite the current virus.def and macro.def files. Do you want me to share the script with you? My question is, is the DOS version (of F-Prot) as good as the Windows version? Will it do as good a job since it doesn't recognize long file names?? Can someone share their opinions/experiences?
Maybe I should take a chance on Mcafee Netshield?

I purchased F-Prot for Windows and wish I got McAfee or Norton! The F-Prot does not run as a service so I have to keep the server conole logged on all the time so that F-Prot will get it's updates. Speaking of updates! There updater program seems to FAIL A LOT! It is not very forgiving when it comes to the Internet being busy or even there server being busy so we don't get updated everytime it tries to update. I have found a lot of viruses that have been released this year are not even detected by F-Prot! Ouch! :-( Hope this has helped you in making a choice about what brand to use.> --- Original Message ---
