Unless you were expecting 8,000 messages, this is what should surprise
you. You do know that these messages are for you, so you've opened them...
so what are they? Do you normally have 8,000 messages waiting for you, or
did something go awry (someone mailbombing you, was there a mail loop, etc.)?

This is completely normal. This is just your POP3 client connecting,
asking for a list of E-mails, and retreiving them. If you have 8,000
E-mails sitting in the queue, you probably have a lot in your mailbox, so
you'll see lots of these lines.

That's an IMail debugging message -- it most likely means that it locked
and unlocked the main.mbx file (which it always does when it alters the
mailbox: adding E-mail, deleting E-mail, etc.).
