I finally purchased and installed both yesterday and it's already caught a few buggers. As far as F-Prot goes, it is the engine for 2 (that I know of) other commercially available anti-virus programs from F-Secure and Command Software Systems. And I'll bet that you're going to see quite a few other responses singing the praises of F-Prot.

Since Declude only needs the on-demand scanner it's very reliable because it's only called when needed, e.g. when a message is processed. There's no need for an on-access scanner to be constantly running, unless you're serving files and want to scan them real-time. From my limited experience definitions are usually available once a week which is comparable to Norton, unless something nasty comes out, and then just like the others, as soon as they have a fix they post it.

I have seen several messages about using F-Prot with Declude for I-Mail servers.  As the price is very cheap, I'm interested in knowing what experience people have had using it for a general virus protection for users.

Are new definitions available promptly?  Is it stable? Reliable?

Am I better off sticking with a well known brand name like Norton or Computer Associates Inoculan?
