What do you mean by "appears"?
Does it mean that you saw that header, and said "Aha! That must be
it!"? That's not a good enough reason to go through the effort to try to
get rid of the header. That header, by the way, is there for a reason. It
lets AOL know that the E-mail is bulk E-mail, and that it can prioritize it
differently (IE if they are near capacity, they could set that one aside
until things slow down). It helps the Internet operate more efficiently.
Have you ever seen a "Precedence: bulk" header in spam? Our spamtraps show
that only about 2% of all spam contains that header, while a lot of
legitimate mail does (it's hard to put a percentage on legitimate mail, as
it would depend on the type of mail, but over 30% of our legitimate mail
here has the header).
If you have tested and found that that header does make a difference,
please share your results. A few months back, after all sorts of rumors
about what type of clandestine filtering AOL does, we weren't able to get
them to drop a single E-mail (not even the most blatant spam, even with the
Precedence: bulk header).
From what we saw, they must be a lot more concerned about who *you* are,
not what you are sending (IE the IP address of your mail server, how much
mail it has sent, etc.).
