>I'm getting over 500 email a day that are being returned to sender for bad >addresses..... BUT I'M NOT SENDING ANY!
First, you are NOT being spammed (in the traditional sense, at least). >They all seem to be manufactured addresses at AOL. I look at them, and >look in the return messages and I >don't see any references to me, my server or any domains I am hosting. HOW >CAN I GET THIS STOPPED? You're probably in the "MAIL FROM:" in the SMTP envelope. That means that there is a spammer who is pretending to be from an account of yours, so he won't have to deal with the bounce messages. It's kind of like if someone sent out junk mail with your address as a return address; the undeliverable mail would get sent to you. To stop it, you have to track down the spammer and stoop to their level. If you can't sue them (which you probably can't, depending on where you and they are, etc.), you have to find more creative ways to get to them. You may have to try contacting them and asking them to stop. This happened to us once, it went on for about 6 months before we finally got it stopped. Fortunately, only a small portion of the spam used a return address on one of our domains. >Where can I learn how to read email headers... Go to http://www.geocities.com/spamresources/spamlinks.htm ; there's a lot of places to start there. >and how to stop this before I get blackballed from AOL? You won't get "blackballed" (blacklisted) by AOL for this. They know that it probably isn't you. If the E-mail was being sent from your mail server, that would be a different story, but it sounds like it isn't. -Scott --- Declude: Anti-virus, Anti-spam and Anti-hijacking solutions for IMail. http://www.declude.com --- [This E-mail was scanned for viruses by Declude Virus (http://www.declude.com)] Please visit http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html to be removed from this list.
