Julie, just thought I'd say that installing Declude is
like falling off a log. I don't know what could be easier.
You basically drop Declude.Exe into the Imail directory
after installing a common command line anti-virus scanner.
You edit the Declude setup file (a text '.INI' style file)
with the antivirus scanner command line string and proper
paths, etc. then run the Declude.Exe. This sets the registry
to run Declude.Exe (instead of SMTP32.Exe) which then does
the email processing then hands the message over to Imail's
SMTP32.Exe for conventional delivery processing.
That's it. It almost seems too easy. Declude just sits
there processing mail then handing it over to SMTP32.Exe
if there is no virus or spam detected. There are more
detailed setup instructions on Scott's site, but that's it
in a nut-shell. I would not consider this a risky process
to do even if you are running a high volume server.
We use McAfee and F-Protect. F-Protect is only $40 for
a 10 machine license. McAfee is now about $200. Each updates
their signatures automatically with a scheduler, so there
is no real maintenance there.
Once you get it setup, you can begin to tweak settings,
message notices that are sent, etc. but there are really
no seriously critical settings starting with the default
settings.

J> Hi Scott,
J> Ok twist my arm! ;) I have been intending to follow through with implementing
either Declude Virus, Declude Junkmail or both. Now there's a deadline - so I guess I
am going to have to get off the
J> fence and just do it.
J> Here's the problem: We run an IMail 7 Server with right around a thousand virtual
domains at our ISP. We're always buried in support requests and network maintenance
duties the way it is, so extra
J> time for fun stuff like installing Declude is sadly a commodity in short supply. If
the install and initial administration of Declude didn't go as we expected or planned,
our tech support line
J> will be ringing off the hook and we could have total pandemonium. Some of our users
really freak out if there is a problem with mail, file attachments, etc. Go figure.
J> I'd sort of like to know what I might be getting myself into with the install and
rollout of either of the Declude products. You know, do my homework first before I
blow up our mail server. :) Do
J> you have an eval or demo version that I can have a look at? There aren't any
details on your site that discuss the interface (if any - maybe it's command line
which is cool). I have been lurking
J> here for a long time (since version 4 believe it or not) and I haven't seen this
discussed on the list yet - unless I missed it.
J> If anyone here can comment on the install procedure or routine administration
details that would be great. For example, with the Pro version, can settings for
individual domains or users be easily
J> handled by any our of support techs, or is that something that we'd only want our
server admins messing with?
J> Don't get me wrong, I know everyone here loves Declude and I am sure that we'll
love it too. I am already sold. I just want to get an idea of what to expect when
setting it up and running it, so I
J> can allocate the time needed to do it right.
J> Best regards,
J> Julie
