As a followup:  note the IP of [0.0.0.0] on the failed connection - it is this way 
every time.  For successful connections it is always the IP of the mail domain that it 
is connecting to.  Is this a sign of a problem on the TCP/IP stack?  Has anyone else 
seen this problem?
