Great idea... but you can't do it with IMail modules. I use FreeBSD and
Qmail. Others prefer PostFix and they're probably right. So, yes, go ahead
and bring up a machine for SMTP traffic. Point the high-priority MX records
to it. Tell it how to route SMTP so that the POP3/WebMessaging box(es) are
the final destination. You can use it for your outgoing gateway, too.

Then put your antivirus and anti-spam goodies on the Unix box. Len has
perfected this system with IMgate. I cobbled one together for very little
money and time before I met Len, too. It's a worthwhile project.

My set up with FreeBSD/Qmail/qmail-scanner/Sophos/spamassassin has been 100%
effective in blocking viruses, more than 90% effective in identifying SPAM,
and processes around 10,000 messages an hour with very little (as in no)
backlog. But do consider IMgate as a more evolved and polished solution.

Good luck,
Mike
