It is known that the Linksys ethernet cards can cause BSODs, and should not
be used with IMail.

Several people are speculating that IMail communicates directly with the
ethernet card, and this could be causing the problem. This just isn't so.

First, it would be very, very unusual for IMail to communicate directly
with the ethernet card. Doing so would involve huge amount of work,
correlating the IPs to the various card(s) and so forth. Doing so would
also likely interfere with Winsock, so it would be a very tricky and
dangerous thing to do.

Second, this issue has only been proven to occur when POP3 transactions are
occurring. The IMail POP3 process *does* use Winsock code to listen to
sockets, and to send information to/from them. If they were going to go an
extremely exotic route and talk directly to the Ethernet card, there is no
reason that they would also use the Winsock code.

Third, even if IMail did communicate directly with the ethernet card, the
card shouldn't cause a BSOD. Doing so would indicate a serious problem
with the Linksys drivers.

There is no doubt that the Linksys drivers are causing this. If you doubt
this, feel free to buy a Linksys card, and test it out. On the BSOD you
will see references to the Linksys drivers.
