this is a bad user interface.  the the CONFUSING kind NOBODY understands by 
just looking at it.

If you check "send all mail through remote gateway" and give it an ip or 
hostname", then ALL mail goes to the gateway on the FIRST try.

A totally separate GUI section should be sliced off and say the "send 
through a remote a mail gateway xxx when the primary recipient MX fails 
after X attempts".
