>Well, it looks like reverse DNS. Stupid me didn't realize that the >receiving servers (AOL) look for a reverse record from "walkerschools.org" >(the server part of the e-mail address) instead of >"mail.walkerschools.org" (the actual hostname that connects to them).
"reversing the ip" by the receiving MTA means taking the ip of the sending MTA to see a) if the reverse zone exists b) if a PTR record exist and sometimes c) does the RDATA hostname of the PTR record have the same ip in it A record as the sending ip? I think AOL uses a weighting scheme that includes reversing the ip, but that is only part of the scheme. Just having a bad reverse is not enough to have AOL drop your mail, but it sure helps :)) Len http://MenAndMice.com/DNS-training http://BIND8NT.MEIway.com : ISC BIND for NT4 & W2K http://IMGate.MEIway.com : Build free, hi-perf, anti-abuse mail gateways Please visit http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html to be removed from this list.
