> why is a mlm better than using outlook address books?

Outlook:

- Must Bcc: all recipients, and many mail servers truncate such
headers

- Must attempt to send to all recipients during a single SMTP session,
not only wasting bandwidth and MHz but also possibly going over the
per-session max recipients, or must be manually broken down into
subsets

- MTA will try to deliver using global thread settings, often meaning
serializing recipient list

- No bounce management

MLM:

- Faster sending due to dedicated list storage

- No wasted bandwidth between MUA and MTA

- No non-RFC header junk

- Human-readable To: address

- MTA will deliver to subsections of the list in parallel

- Bounce management available

Imail's list server will only help you if you have a Declude product
(www.declude.com) installed, as Scott has fixed an Imail queue
processing issue which would otherwise have undone all of the possible
advantages. Still...see below for the deal-killer for your business
needs.

You should find out what is really being used--it could be a
standalone mail blaster and could be much more efficient that Outlook,
thus harder to get the user off for perf reasons.

Probably because s/he fears losing control of list membership. You
will have to make sure this person can fully administer, in real-time,
the list, or it will be a hard sell. Imail does allow lists to be
managed over the web, but still...see below.

Why Imail won't cut it: you're not wrong!
