Scott,

Thanks indeed for the wonderful answer (and timely too!) -- I just checked
the theory and it is absolutely as you describe (I'm actually 1 off, but
that's close enough for me right now!).

Thanks again!
Bill

I believe it is a total of the Q*.* files. Each E-mail is split into a
D*.SMD file (the actual E-mail headers+body) and a Q*.SMD file (with the
SMTP envelope). Different extensions are used occasionally (IE FWD/FWP for
forwarded E-mails, VAC for vacation messages, GSE/GCE for postmaster
messages). You can have stray D*.* files that have no corresponding Q*.*
files (when double-bounces occur, where IMail can't deliver a bounce
message), but each Q*.* file should have a corresponding D*.*
file. Because of that oddity, you won't always get the numbers to match
just by looking at the file extension.

One other note: E-mails that are currently in the process of being
delivered (that are locked) will be in the format _*.~?? (such as
"_1234567.~MD").
