Nope, wrong. The RFC hasn't been updated. The host name is still required there. [1] RFC2821 technically hasn't yet superseded RFC821 (although many people assume that it does, so it's becoming a "defacto standard"). With newer versions (such as the version you are running), the correct host name is used. So in your case, for everything to meet the RFCs exactly, you would need to have the MX records for the virtual hosts point to, so that they match the name of the mailserver.
