Terry, What never ceases to amaze me is the stupidity of a large proportion of these guys (e.g., using "$domain", for one thing) as compared with the considerable ingenuity that mail admins must deploy to guard against those fools. They use a shotgun approach and even if they manage to harvest 5% of "good" addresses -- at little or no expense to them --, they are ahead. Meanwhile, the white hat managing a ten-address mail server must nonetheless deal with the attacks at his/her own expense.
