Hello! Lately we've been having difficulty with our IMail server (7.04). The performance has been dwindling. For example, I've gotten complaints that sometimes the webmail will not come-up for a client (I suspect it times-out) and other times I've heard attachments won't attach. You simply click on the >>Attach>> button and then the browser refreshes without attaching the file in the attachment list box. In additon to these quirks, I've personally experienced my IMAP connection get incredibly slow, refuse to purge marked messages or pop-up messages that my connection timed-out while connecting to the server. In the logs I am seeing the following type of messages numerous times:
09:08 23:27 SMTP-(00000C08) ERR mail.maxweb.com read open fail (h:\IMail\spool\Dcb2b12a.SMD) 09:08 23:27 SMTP-(00000C08) ERR local fail to mail.maxweb.com heath-xweb.com\Users\heath\rules.ima (310) <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 0 Our setup: IMail installed on a separate IDE disk. Includes the program files and mail hosts/mail user data (the H: drive) Webshield 4.1.40 SMTP gateway installed on separate drive (partioned off C:-drive as G: drive) The C: drive only contains Win2K AS (up to date) Today I have done some things that will hopefully resolve these issues. I removed the Dr. Solomon virus scanner that I was told to install several months ago. I don't believe it was actually scanning anything anyway. I also noticed Cold Fusion 4.5 was installed on the machine. I think before the machine was brought into production, this was installed to test something. It never got removed. It's gone now. I was thinking since the disk has never been defragged, I should have this done, but I wanted to ask first: Would a defragmentation help my situation? Since the IMail program files and hosts/mailboxes are all on the same disk, I can still defragment, right? I realize the server will be slowed, but I was thinking...the middle of the night would be the best time to do this. I have about 9GB of mail on that disk with 8GB free, so I should be ok with a defrag. Can I get the thumbs-up on this? What additional things can I do to make the server work like it did a year ago (which was excellant)? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks! Ben Cichanowicz MaxWeb Inc. Asst.
