I am currently having some huge SPAM related issues related to our Imail 6.0 server and I was hoping someone could provide some guidance.  We have well over 100K users and they are not an especially active bunch and the majority of e-mails we get tend to be SPAM.  I am talking roughly 1M+ messages in a 3 day span (98% being SPAM).  The machine is overkill for what we are doing but Imail can just not handle the messages fast enough and it makes using the system impossible.  We have even written custom apps to recurse the spool directory and kill SPAM mail but it can't keep up.  I don't want to spend a lot on fixing this because it seems like we should be able to handle SPAM properly.

So here are my questions:

1.  What products will fix this?  I have looked at Declude, but before we buy this will it really do the trick?  We are talking a lot of messages and people want to be able to use this system.

2.  Can someone explain what the kill file actually does?  I have yet to see this thing work properly and maybe it is because of the load on the mail system that causes it.  When does this get called and when does it perform a kill?  If this file is very large (ie. a lot of domains) will it cause additional stress?

3.  Any out of the box ideas?  Has anyone done anything inventive to solve SPAM problems themselves with custom apps or anything.

I really need the help and I am totally open to suggestions.  Anyone?

Thanks in advance.
