It is going to be very difficult to fix the problem without fixing the
firewall. Giving the proper IMail settings, here are your options:
[1] IMail, either with or without a real firewall:
o Will not let spammers send mail
o Will not let people send anonymous E-mail
[2] IMail, with the "Spammer's Friend" (Microsoft's ISA Server):
o Will let spammers send mail
o Will let spammers send anonymous E-mail (untraceable)
o Will get you listed in spam databases
o Will cause some of your mail to disappear (as will be considered
spam)
o Will cause your server to get overloaded as more and more
spammers use it, until finally
o You have to deal with the problem.
Simply unplugging the firewall will fix your problem. :) Your firewall is
actually reducing security.
Your only option without fixing the firewall is to use "No Mail Relay",
which will fix the problem, as spammers will have to have a valid account
and password to send mail. This may be difficult as some mail clients do
not like SMTP AUTH, but that is your only option. Even if you do this,
however, you still need to get that firewall replaced with something that
increases security, not reduces it.
