As silly as this sounds, being the problem and all, we ARE the ISP, so
all other services are up and fine, it's just this mail server that's giving
us a headache. We just installed this new server 2 days ago as we had
outgrown the old one. It seems 90% of the move went just fine, but there are
these few issues that have popped up, web messaging which was handled, now
the server just stopping responding. It's not locked up or anything, you can
open IMailadmin, see services running, monitor shows nothing maxed out, just
the multiple POP3s under task manager. but no one can log on. I'm new at
this, and so I apologize for any stupid questions, I appreciate the replies
tho. I'll have a look at the power management. How would that effect a
server that runs 24/7? We've been talking with Ipswitch and they're clueless
as to what the problem is as well,

Just as a suggestion and not knowing what/where/when/why/who.. but if you
are a major provisioning company, ie: WorldCom, Sprint, etc., then you
should have a few dozen engineers readily available to support you. If you
are like the majority of us here we purchase bandwidth for use and/or
resale. If the later being your case then you might want to check with
'your' provisioning folks to ensure that the 'Internet' was available at the
time of your non-connectivity. (The company whom you buy your internet
connection from.)

Not knowing the cause of the concern I'd suspect a connectivity issue. I
would try to ensure that the NIC Cards are fully functional and available
for traffic. To disable all power management functions for some NIC Cards:

Go to Control Panel -> Power Options, you should a dialog box. Set the power
schemes to 'Always On', change settings for power scheme to 'Never' for both
monitor and hard disks. Click the Tabs on top of the dialog box and clear
all the check-box on each screen.

Go to Control Panel ->System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Network
Adapters. Double Click your adapter ie: Intel Pro 100+ or 3Com xxx. Select
Power Management Tab. Uncheck the box "Allow the computer to turn off this
device to save power".
