FWIW, I have been using Kiwi's Syslog for around 4 years and it has been a trooper. Never lets me down. It is extremely reliable and completely configurable.
My advice: go for the full (paid) version. The ability to filter syslog messages based on content is a godsend, and it doesn't even cost much. Imagine being able to keep SEPARATE logs for SMTPD, SMTP, IMAP, POP3, etc. You can set it up that way with the full version. Just tell it to filter for "SMTPD" and send those messages to smtpd.log. You can even set up multiple filters and actions for each message, so you can still have one big log with everything in it like before, AND have the separate files for easier troubleshooting. Believe me, you won't regret it...
