I have an IMail 7.07 server running Declude Junkmail. The server sits behind a
Cisco PIX firewall. If I telnet server 25 from inside the firewall I receive
a normal 220, however, from the outside, the 220 responds as all asterisks.

I know this isn't an IMail problem, but was hoping someone might have a quick
answer for me. What, other than POP & SMTP ports, must be allowed to pass
through the firewall in order to receive a proper 220 Server Welcome Message?
Cisco's PIX firewall is not RFC-compliant. It is intentionally blocking the SMTP greeting. At least they have fixed the big bug (originally, there was a bug that would cause all "2"'s and "0"'s to come through without being blocked, reducing the value of the security measure).

That may be part of their infamous "SMTP fixup" protocol, or there may be a separate option to disable the SMTP greeting blocking.
