Remember me a couple of months ago? I complained of a problem where my
iMail server (version 7.07) had a problem with POP3 hanging. With the
holiday that came and several other things I couldn't continue debugging so
I simply set an automated process to restart the service every 30 minutes.
To recap:
Imail version 7.07
Server: Quad Processor PIII with lotsa ram.
Imail Database: SQL Server on separate machine (Dual Proc PIII 2gig ram)
Problem: After as little as 30 minutes of activity, the POP3 service will
fail to respond to any requests. The service doesn't crash or stop, there
are no errors in the log files.
One suggestion was to update the MDAC to the latest. I did that on both
servers, no change in the problem.
One suggestion in debugging was to make a domain an internal iMail database.
I did that today, waiting for a crash to test it.
One suggestion was to turn on SQL Logging, I did that and the logs remain
empty/zero bytes for two days. When I stopped the logging they remained the
same, no logging was happening.
There was one final e-mail that asked me to do several other things, I am
sorry to say that I don't have it anymore. I thought I saved it but I must
not have. I did save it for a month and thought I archived it.
There is a kb article at IPSwitch that suggests that if the POP service
can't get to the database, it can cause it to fail every time after that. I
have a feeling that my problem isn't necessarily iMail, however the
connection between the boxes but the servers are newly built servers and
there's no other problems except for two:
1. AnswerTrack, we have this product which works with iMail and also uses
SQL Server. It sometimes sends e-mails saying that there was an access
violation trying to get to the database. As if the connection failed. I
was told not to worry about the error but I'm thinking it's related to my
problem.
2. I can get to the HD of the SQL Server but if I'm on the SQL server I
cannot get to the HD of the Imail server, I get the error: "Not enough
server storage is available to process this command" There is plenty of
drive space on both machines and the answers on Microsoft's knowledgebase on
what to do about this error dont fix the error.
Does anyone have any suggestions to help me with this?
