In 2 last day we a have a lot of problem with our customer that use Outlook Express to send email by our SMTP server (5.09).One thing that you need to change is that you must UNcheck the "Refuse NULL Senders" -- if that box is checked, your mailserver will not be RFC-compliant, and you it got you listed in a spam database ( http://www.rfc-ignorant.org ). You need to uncheck that box, and then go to the URL I listed to get removed from the spam database.
We have NO MAIL RELAY, REFUSE NULL <> SENDERS and CHECK VALID SENDER enabled; DISABLE SMTP VRFY and DISABLE SMTP AUTH disabled.
It won't fix the SMTP AUTH problem, but will help ensure that your mail gets delivered. I don't know that anyone actually blocks E-mail from domains listed in http://www.rfc-ignorant.org , but lots of people have that count against you when trying to determine if your E-mail is legitimate or not.
