It has definitely been discussed. However, since you can use a
logger with IMAIL the consensus has been to move to that vehicle
as a better solution. The one that has been repeatedly
recommended is kiwi -

In my opinion the single spool directory is one of the real
limitations to scaling IMAIL and in its performance. However,
there are others that are equally serious to performance and
scalability. Ipswitch has really shown very little interest in
changing the basics of the program.
