When I telnet to my mail server, this is what I get..

220 todhunter.com (IMail 7.14 2989-2) NT-ESMTP Server X1

According to the RFC, what is it "supposed" to be?

I was looking at the dnsreport warning but I don't quite understand
where this in violation?

It is best for it to be a fully qualified host name that has an A record pointing back to the IP of your mailserver.

However, there doesn't seem to be any widespread usage of the hostname here, so I wouldn't worry about it too much -- in your case, the greeting would be clear to a human (or many computer programs).
