[IMail Forum] smtp auth problems

Has anyone experienced problems with having a "." in the username when doing smtp auth.  I have a user using outlook2002 with everything setup correctly and it still wont let him send mail.  His email is [EMAIL PROTECTED].  All of my other accounts work just fine.  Any suggestions?
