You'll probably be replied several times that it is a known issue in both the archives and the KB.
Thanks to those who replied. We are running 7.07 and currently not inclined to upgrade to 7.1x. I was not expecting this to be related to a MS patch because we had not applied any patches recently - that I was aware of. Once the mention or patches appeared I called the ISP at our co-lo and discovered they actually were applying security patches as they settled down. They HAD applied a recent patch and knew the problem because some of their other servers ran into it as well. They also knew how to fix it although I don't yet know what that fix is but plan to find out.
